Physical Description

Cavalryman's sword of a so-called "Pappeinheimer" type from the 17th century. Double-edged blade , no fuller but so ground as to give a 'stepped' effect for most of the blade where the edge meets the flat of the blade. Hilt of steel, with knuckle-bow & ricasso, pas d'arm and quillon, the rear down-turned, the front up-turned. Knuckle-bow ends in an oval pommel. Below the pas d'armes is a bi-lobed shell, larger on the outer side, oval; the shell is held in place by four screws. Grip of wire-bound wood; wire partly missing & loosened.
