Physical Description
Ribbed black Gnathian oinochoe. Trefoil lip. Lion's head at top of handle. Decorated with bands of applied red, yellow and white, and a bunch of grapes on neck opposite handle.
Provenance
Antiquarius acquired it from an English dealer. Previous history unknown but possibly from an English estate. made by a Greek potter working in or around the ancient Taras (modern Taranto). The ware is called "Gnathian potter" from a place in South Italy where it was first found.
