Tray, D62.2021

Large circular metal (brass) tray. A dark round wooden vine/branch as support/form runs the circumference of the tray over which the metal lip of tray is formed/wrapped. ( Woodend vine/branch can be seen from underside of tray.) Tray is formed of large flat centre base with side flaring up at sharp angle and then flaring out at sharp angle (and parallel to the base) with the circumference/edge formed by being rolled over the wooden vine/branch. A small metal (iron?) ring has been bent over the edge - possibly to be used as a hanger, e.g. to be hung on wall. Ring is floating on rim/edge, i.e. is only bent over, not fastened - not attached nor piercing the edge. The base of tray and top edge are highly embossed. An elaborate symmetrical pattern dividing the base into quadrants covers the base. The patterning on the top edge is a repeating design running the circumference of the plate. Embossing appears to have been hand applied using a pecking method. Embossing appears to have been done from the top side, i.e. as the plate sits in its intended right side up position. Upper side of plate is a light brass colour while the under side appears darker. General appearance is that of perhaps having been used but in very good condition.
