Physical Description
Wooden tewhatewha. Carved on head and upper blade but uncarved on staff handle. Proximal end of staff is curved towards a point on inside edge with outside edge straight. Visible surface scratch runs diagonal below accession number and below end of carved relief. Head carving replicated on both sides with single spiral with single haehae cut with rauponga pattern dominating design curling to single loop at top corner of blade edge. Koru design flows around spiral to blade edge with a single double spiral on staff within a diagonal band on lower edge delineating completion of carved relief.
