Physical Description
Flattened Ushaped box, rounded ends and flat lid. Lid has strap motif, divided into quadrats with pair of interlocking double spirals in each. Box has division along midline of base with identical decoration each side. This consists of three double spirals interlocking and another two double spirals in spaces. Has human figure in high relief at each end with the torso on the box and the heads forming the suspension knobs. Heads have each large paua shell eyes. Box is stained light red. Wood totara (Podocarpus totara).
