April must be one of the busiest months in the Otago Museum’s calendar! There are activities and events galore, and during the April school holidays there’ll be a buzz of energy as the Museum fills up with families having fun.
We are proud to be hosting a visiting astronaut, the opening of the Wild Dunedin – NZ Festival of Nature, with high-profile speakers and lots of activities for all the family, new planetarium shows, fascinating expert talks, and more! Come along and be inspired!

December has arrived and excitement is mounting with the opening of Tūhura! This is followed by our Christmas festivities – Christmas @ OM performers and the Elves’ Workshop and Makerspace. Join us for lots of seasonal fun!

The end of the year is looming fast and November offers a great chance to get to the Museum for some of our special happenings before things get really busy!
The Museum’s highlight of the year continues: our popular Life before Dinosaurs: Permian Monsters from Gondwana Studios is wowing visitors with its life-size animatronics, fossil dig-pits and stunning artwork that offers a glimpse into the deep past. Special Exhibitions Gallery. Paid admission.

School holidays, and the Museum is abuzz with activity! October offers plenty of events and activities to inspire and excite!
The absolute highlight is the fantastic Life before Dinosaurs: Permian Monsters exhibition – a travelling exhibition from Gondwana Studios. It brings the past back to life with fossilised skeletons and life-size animatronic models of the animals that ruled the world millions of years before the age of dinosaurs. The exhibition also blends art and science with a collection of new artwork that offers a glimpse...

July is the last month to enjoy and say ka kite to Discovery World as we know it! Following the July School holidays it will close for redevelopment, and our highly anticipated new science centre will open at the end of the year with an amazing line-up of 50 new interactives, including a a six metre-high DNA-inspired slide!

June may bring us the shortest days of the year, but at Otago Museum we’re packing as much into them as ever! Some June events are already sold out, so book now for the following, while places are still available.
