Otago Museum is looking forward to marking the 20th anniversary of the Otago Wildlife Photography Competition with a new medium and a new venue for the exhibition.
Following the success of Our Women: 125 of Dunedin’s Extra-Ordinary Women in the Beautiful Science gallery, this year’s photography exhibition will also be installed in the digital gallery. The winning and highly commended images will be projected on the 4.5 m high by 2 m wide screens, with a selection of other entries displayed in the more traditional printed format along the centre of the room.
Visitors will also be able to vote on all entries for the People’s Choice Award via a touchscreen located in the gallery.
This year, there were 2125 entries, comprising 53 videos and 2072 photographic entries from all over Otago. The judges commented during selection that the calibre was impressively high. Judges included regulars Jonathan Kemp, Paul Le Comte, Rod Morris, Shanaya Allan, Paul Donovan and Max Quinn as well as two new judges, Christine O’Connor and Izumi Schmidt.
The winners will be announced at a prize-giving this Saturday morning, before the exhibition opens to the public, with free entry, until Sunday 4 August.
The competition once again received generous support from its long-term sponsors Canon, Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse and the Otago Daily Times.
